In precision component applications, many machining tool marks, casting micro-depressions, and surface wear traces are clearly discernible to the naked eye. If software processing is inadequate, these subtle microscopic features can easily be misidentified as noise and filtered out. Even when the scanner has already captured valid raw point cloud data, the final generated model may still lose critical features.
This upgrade focuses on the software algorithm layer. 3DMatrix_Gen2 integrates a proprietary vertical AI model and incorporates a newly upgraded algorithm architecture to perform feature identification and intelligent reconstruction of point cloud signals.
Its core capability lies in more accurately identifying subtle detail signals in the raw point cloud that are easily discarded, separating genuine microscopic component features from mixed noise data, and restoring the actual surface morphology of the workpiece.
A motorcycle cylinder block was selected as the scanning object for this test. The workpiece contains multiple transitional surfaces and recessed cavity structures. In Figure 1, the surface generated by the original algorithm exhibits obvious jagged triangular facets. The details at the cavity corners and hole edges are blurred, and the surface transitions are not sufficiently smooth.
Equipped with a proprietary AI model, 3DMatrix_Gen2 can intelligently distinguish noise from genuine workpiece features, analyze subtle amplitude differences in the raw point cloud point by point, and differentiate random noise points from actual surface variations on the workpiece.
In Figure 2, the model generated by the new algorithm completely preserves the transitional surfaces of the cylinder block, the transition boundaries of the cavities, and the subtle casting structures around holes of different sizes. These features are not accidentally deleted during noise reduction. The native surface morphology of the motorcycle cylinder block is fully reproduced, while the model’s surface transitions and hole edges remain consistent with the actual structure of the workpiece.
When the model’s native details are sufficiently complete and smooth, engineers no longer need to spend significant time on repetitive post-processing tasks such as manually refining the mesh and filling surfaces. This substantially reduces the hours originally required for manual repair. At the same time, subsequent reverse engineering becomes simpler and more convenient for engineers, further reducing refinement time.
Now, a high-fidelity 3D model can be generated from a single scan. This high-quality native data can be directly used for dimensional comparison, wear inspection, and reverse replication of components. It also avoids subjective modification deviations caused by manual model refinement at the source, ensuring data reproducibility and consistency across multiple batches and repeated scanning tasks, and making inspection and modeling results more reliable.
For cast housings and workpieces with complex cavities, the preservation of microscopic details directly determines the accuracy of inspection and reverse engineering. This detail enhancement capability is particularly well suited to workpieces with complex casting textures and variable curved-surface transitions. It is widely applicable to engine cylinder blocks, various precision castings, miniature machined components, mold surface texture inspection, and reverse engineering of component wear morphology.
